Initially, this portion of the site was meant to encompass book reviews
of books that I had read, and include a personal reading history.
This effort was quickly abandoned as the list became quickly out of date.
I feel, however, more strongly than ever that the internet may be the
beginning of transparent thought, and have instead decided to use this
page as a list of links to valuable destinations and book recommendations,
spare the doubt induced by any choice I would make to use an affiliate
program.
With no further ado, I would like to recommend the following:
|
The Knowing-Doing Gap
|
|
Modeling the difference between recordable facts and knowledge,
this book presents a credible and difficult to refute model of the
failure of modern business thinking without action. I believe, also,
that it's lessons are generalizable to one's own life.

I have long believed that being able to tell
a good story is a necessary trait for a CEO. Were that the only
criteria, I would be working with Neal Stephenson as soon as he
would allow. This story glamorizes science and cryptology, exciting
and encouraging those who believe in a technological world. The
characters (well, the male characters) are excellently developed,
while the book itself remain both serious and hilarious.

The Ultimate Resource 2
|
|
This book is a scathing review of the history
and predictions of environmentalism in the United States. This book
significantly shifted my world view, proving to me that there are
popularly believed confidence games, and that an individuals desire
to 'do good' has the potential to 'do bad.'

The Demolished Man
Alfred Bester

Neat book - early SF.
- Telepathy - privacy of thoughts / 1984
in a 'happy' world
- Character is 'demolished' - excellent
loss of character / morality

The Logic of Failure

This book models the tendency of individuals, when managing dynamic
systems, to act in a linear way. It would be funny, were it not
so scary.

Incredibly frustrating; the idea of the book
is brilliant, the research convincing, and the conclusions revolutionary
and visionary. The thing is, though, that it could have been an
article - much of the 'meat' of the book is relatively arbitrary.
I think it convinced me to sign up for one of those services where
they mail you the synopsis, and leave out the trash.
Dear reader, I recommend that you, instead
of reading this book, trust me when I say: "Computers allow
for mass-customization. It is inevitable, and you will be
assimilated."
